While Greater St. Louis Inc. did not disclose the number of trips or participants, they confirmed their efforts to educate stakeholders about economic development projects, including data centers. Ameren, the utility company, stands to benefit financially from data centers, having received nonrefundable payments for transmission upgrades and construction agreements. The company's CEO highlighted their engagement with potential data center customers and the pipeline of large load opportunities. Meanwhile, Troy and Festus officials participated in the December trip, with Troy's administrator expressing a mix of newfound understanding and lingering questions about data center projects. The trips come amidst a surge of data center proposals in the St. Louis region, including two in Festus and Troy, despite facing public backlash and concerns over noise, water, power, and pollution.
