Major changes are afoot at Disney's Hollywood Studios! The iconic PizzeRizzo sign has been taken down, signaling the end of an era in the former Muppets Courtyard. This removal marks a significant step in the transformation of this area into the world of Monsters, Inc.
The billboard, once proudly displayed atop the green outdoor seating structure, is now gone, leaving only a bare base. Imagine the vibrant scene: Rizzo, the lovable rat, holding a pizza, with the words "The City’s Top Rated Pizza" illuminated by flashing neon lights, complete with an arrow pointing the way. Now, it's just a memory.
But here's where it gets interesting... Crews were also spotted working on the exterior wall of Gonzo’s Royal Flush, the restrooms attached to the PizzeRizzo building. The Gonzo’s Royal Flush sign has also recently been removed. This suggests a comprehensive overhaul is underway.
A Blast from the Past: PizzeRizzo itself has a fascinating history. Originally, it was Toy Story Pizza Planet Arcade. It was later re-themed to PizzeRizzo in 2016. The restaurant, along with the rest of Muppets Courtyard, including MuppetVision 3D, closed in June 2025.
Monstropolis is Coming: The entire area is being reimagined as Monstropolis from Monsters, Inc. While the PizzeRizzo building is expected to remain and become a new quick-service venue, its new theme is still a mystery. Concept art gives us a hint, but the details are still under wraps. The MuppetVision 3D theater and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano are also getting makeovers. The theater will be transformed, with concept art suggesting it will be named The Glob. Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s, a restaurant featured in the first Monsters, Inc. film.
And this is the part most people miss... The land's E-ticket attraction will be a thrilling roller-coaster through the Monsters, Inc. door vault. It's set to be Disney's first suspended and first vertical lift coaster. Construction is already underway in a former parking lot outside the bounds of Muppets Courtyard.
